Sci Fi TV Highlights: Premiere for Andor Season 2, Pacific Rim TV Series Heads to Prime Video, and More

Sci Fi TV Highlights: A look at the upcoming schedule of sci fi and fantasy shows as well as recent news and/or trailers of note.

Sci Fi TV Premieres This Week:

Andor (Disney+): As the Empire’s grip tightens, Cassian becomes deeply involved in pivotal missions, encountering key figures like Mon Mothma, Luthen Rael, Saw Gerrera, and the droid K-2SO. The narrative delves into the sacrifices and moral complexities faced by those resisting tyranny, highlighting the personal costs of rebellion and the emergence of hope in the galaxy’s darkest times. The first three episodes of Season 2 will be available to stream on Tuesday.

Schedule Notes:

I have to do some reconciliation from the beginning of the month on three shows I missed. Netflix’s anime Devil May Cry premiered on May 3rd and all episodes of that are available for viewing. I thought that was a Japanese import and did not include it because I am not covering all the foreign language shows (too many to keep track of), but turns out that is an English-language original. The supernatural drama The Bondsman premiered on Amazon’s Prime Video on April 2nd with almost no notice, and all episodes of that one are currently available for streaming. And lastly, Syfy quitely dropped the third season of SurrealEstate onto its schedule on April 3rd and it is airing Thursday at 10 PM EST. You can catch up with the first three episodes at Syfy’s app and website. Below are the full listings for the current week, and you can see all of the premieres for May and beyond at this link. The two-week view of the schedule is available here.

Sci Fi TV News of Note:

The Pacific Rim TV series that has been in the works at Legendary is headed to Amazon’s Prime Video. This will be a live-action continuation of the film franchise, but the details for the series have not been released yet. Eric Heisserer (Arrival, Shadow and Bone) will be onboard as writer and executive producer.

An animated series focusing on the character Darth Maul is in the works at Disney+ and it will be titled Maul: Shadow Lord. Sam Witwer will be returning to voice the role, but not much else is known about the show at this point. This one is targeting a 2026 premiere.

Daredevil: Born Again wrapped up what is counting as its first season the last week and showrunner Dario Scardapane has announced that the second season will premiere in March 2026.  This is confusing, though, as originally the first season was supposed to have 17 episodes (as indicated by the IMDb.com entry).  Apparently they have decided to break that order into two seasons, and we will have to wait a year for the show’s return (though that’s not too bad considering the 2 to 3 year hiatuses we have been seeing for some of the streaming originals).

In further scheduling news, Peacock has announced July 31st as the premiere date for Twisted Metal Season 2.  And Netflix has announced the premiere for the second and final season of The Sandman.  Volume 1 will premiere on July 3rd and Volume 2 will release on July 24th.

Season 2 of Ahsoka is set to start filming which should put it on track for a 2026 premiere. Work is also beginning on Sugar Season 2, Interview with the Vampire Season 3, and Mayfair Witches Season 3 according to the April 17th listings from Production Weekly.

In casting news, HBO has confirmed four of the main roles in its upcoming Harry Potter series: John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
