Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.
Status Updates
Solar Opposites (Hulu, Status: Renewed): Hulu has announced that the upcoming sixth season of this animated comedy will be its last. It has performed relatively well over its tenure for an animated entry, and six seasons with 60+ episodes is a good run for a streaming original these days. The final season will premiere at some point in Fall 2025.
Severance (Apple TV+, Status: Renewal Possible): This series held at Number 5 in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, pulling in an estimated 681 million minutes of viewing. It has been in the Top 5 for five weeks in a row, and with the second-season finale dropping this week, I expect to hear word on a third-season renewal soon.
Paradise (Hulu, Status: Renewal Possible): This show remained in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for a third week, placing at Number 8 with an estimated 487 million minutes of viewing. It has performed well so far for a Hulu original, and not surprisingly it has already been renewed for a second season.
Harely Quinn (Max, Status: Renewal Possible): This animated DC series did not make it into the Nielsen streaming rankings during its fifth season, but it has rarely seen the charts across its five-year run. It has had a good run so far for a streaming original, at five seasons and 56 episodes including this week’s season finale. Whether Max will bring it back for another year at this point is unclear, but if fans make enough noise, the adventures of Harley Quinn could continue.

The announcement on Solar Opposites coming to an end will impact the 2025-26 season since that show will not be returning until Fall. The score for the current season remains the same at 23 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (47% of shows tracked) vs. 13 cancelled and ending (27%).
