However, when his brother mysteriously disappears, Jeff takes Nate’s paranoia seriously, and in the process uncovers the dark underworld of the TV show “Cult” and its rabid fans.
The fictitious show, centered on the cat-and-mouse game between a charismatic cult leader and the detective who was once a cult member, has become an obsession for its viewers – and now some of its devotees seem to be taking their fixation to deadly extremes in the real world. CWTV.com
Why Was It Cancelled? Cult debuted in the Tuesday 9 PM EST timeslot that had become a difficult hour for the fifth place network by the 2012-13 season. Not surprisingly, it bowed to poor numbers. In fact, it had one of the lowest debuts ever for a scripted series on one of the broadcast networks. It did not help that this genre-bending, meta-series was slow and convoluted in its early episodes, but The CW had typically shown patience with its shows and given them more of a chance. Not this time, though. It was cast to Fridays pretty quickly then sent to the Summer months to burn-off its remaining episodes. And it never developed much of a fanbase to try and lobby for it to earn a chance for another season but will likely one day be remembered as one of those shows cancelled far too soon.
