Status: This series is entering into its seventh season and creator Charlie Booker has said that “hopefully” it will run forever. In an interview with the BBC, Booker made the following comments:
Technology is developing in the real world very quickly. That means there are more sources of inspiration, and… the viewer is experiencing more [technological] things in their everyday life . . . We can do stories that I wouldn’t have thought of 10 years ago, and also, you don’t need to explain some of the concepts to people because they’ve got it in their phone.
Black Mirror has continued to draw strong viewership for Netflix, and since it is an anthology, each season is an event that does not necessarily require having watched prior seasons. Whether it will run forever remains to be seen, but it will almost certainly continue for at least a few more years.
