Sci Fi TV Production Report: Tracking the sci fi and fantasy shows currently moving into development/production based on the listings from Production Weekly. Note that appearing on that list does not guarantee that the series will move forward.
Following are the genre entries of note included in the listings from April 17th and April 24th:
The X-Files: News had already broke that Ryan Coogler (Black Panther) was working on a reboot of The X-Files, and that is now showing up in the latest Production Weekly listings. No specifics have been revealed about the show at this point, but he is in talks with Gillian Anderson about returning to the property, ostensibly to reprise her role as Dana Scully. There is no word on whether David Duchovny would be involved with the project as well. Fox previously brought the series back for two seasons starting in 2016 and seemed to be setting it up for younger agents to take the baton and carry the show forward. But that did not happen and the revival ended on a cliffhanger. Whether Coogler’s reboot would pick up on that storyline or go a different direction remains to be seen. The series is owned by 20th Century Fox Television which was bought out by Disney, so the reboot/revival would likely land on the Disney+ or Hulu streaming services.
Pacific Rim (Prime Video): Amazon announced last week that they are working on a live-action Pacific Rim television series with Legendary, and that has now shown up on the Production Weekly list. The details for the series have not been released yet, but we do know that Eric Heisserer (Arrival, Shadow and Bone) will be onboard as writer and executive producer.
Carrie (Prime Video): Also headed to Prime Video is a television adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie. Variety gives the following description of the project:
[Carrie is a] bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White, who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public High School, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.
Siena Agudong (Resident Evil) has been cast in the role of Sue Snell and Summer H. Howell (Cult of Chucky) is in talks to take on the lead role. Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) will be helming the project and this is likely targeting an early 2026 premiere.
Other genre entries from the listings for April 17th and April 24th: Crystal Lake (Peacock), Ghosts Season 4 (CBS), Interview with the Vampire Season 3 (AMC), Mayfair Witches Season 3 (AMC), School Spirits Season 3 (Paramount+), Sugar Season 2 (Apple TV+)
