Sci Fi TV Highlights: Mid-Season Finale for Daredevil Born Again, Tomb Raider Series Buried at Amazon, and More

Sci Fi TV Highlights: A look at the upcoming schedule of sci fi and fantasy shows as well as recent news and/or trailers of note.

Schedule Notes:

Two shows will wrap up this week, starting with Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again which has its mid-season finale on Tuesday. That show will return with the remaining episodes of its first season later this year, and it has already been renewed for a second season. Then on Thursday, The Wheel of Time will release its third season finale on Prime Video. That one is still waiting for word on its fourth season, and I expect a renewal announcement to be made shortly. Below are the full listings for the current week, and you can see all of the premieres for April and beyond at this link. The two-week view of the schedule is available here.

Sci Fi TV News of Note:

Amazon’s long-in-the-works Tomb Raider series appears to be slipping off the cliff as The Daily Mail has reported that the television adaptation of the popular video game is ‘dead’. After years in Development Hell and at least $100 sunk into the project, nothing substantial has come of it. In addition, Jennifer Salke has been kicked out as head of Amazon Studios and she was the one who originally gave the show the greenlight. Perhaps it could still go forward at some point, but Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones)–who was tagged to play the lead role–is busy the rest of the year, so it appears that nothing will happen in 2025.

Meanwhile, Amazon is going forward with another well-known property as they have given the greenlight to a television series adaptation of Stephen King’s CarrieVariety gives the following description of the project:

[Carrie is a] bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White, who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public High School, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.

Siena Agudong (Resident Evil) has been cast in the role of Sue Snell and Summer H. Howell (Cult of Chucky) is in talks to take on the lead role.  Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) will be helming the project and this is likely targeting an early 2026 premiere.

Two renewal announcements came out this week as HBO has ordered a third season of The Last of Us ahead of its second season premiere and AMC renewed Mayfair Witches for a third year.

In production news, Seasons 2 and 3 of Netflix’s 3 Body Problem will film back-to-back while the animated Magic: The Gathering is ramping up at the same streaming service.  You can read more about those in our Sci Fi TV Production Report column.

In scheduling news, AMC has finally given a premiere date for Nautilus, the show cancelled by Disney+ before it aired and later picked up by the cable channel (more on that at this link). The ten-episode series will kick off June 29th on AMC and AMC+ and you can see the teaser below.
