Sci Fi TV Highlights: Updates on The Boys S5, From S4, and Gen V S2, Buffy Reboot Introduces New Slayer, and More

Sci Fi TV Highlights: A look at the upcoming schedule of sci fi and fantasy shows as well as recent news and/or trailers of note.

Sci Fi TV News of Note:

Here are some production status updates on sci fi/fantasy shows currently in the works:

According to Erik Kripke, the fifth and final season of The Boys is halfway through filming and that could have the show set to return later this year.  Meanwhile, filming is complete for Season 2 of Gen V and they are working on the SFX with a trailer possibly hitting soon.  That one could premiere as early as Summer.  And the writing is in progress for the prequel series Vought Rising with that one likely arriving at some point in 2026.

The fourth season of MGM+’s From is supposed to start filming in Summer and that would likely have it on target to premiere early or mid 2026.

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot/revival which will see Sarah Michelle Gellar return on a recurring basis has has solidified plans for its new lead and TVLine has the scoop on that:

That new Slayer seems to skew more Willow than Buffy. Per preliminary and subject-to-change intel, she’s a cerebral 16-year-old named Nova (though we’re fairly certain that name is just a placeholder) who is very smart and a bit of a loner.

Her buddies, aka those who would’ve been considered the “Scoobies” in the original series, will include Hugo, an out-and-proud nerd who comes from money, and Gracie, a young expert on vampires who’s an acolyte of Gellar’s Buffy.

No casting decisions have been made yet, but we should hear some announcements soon.

In casting news, Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) is in talks to join HBO’s Harry Potter TV series in the role of Hagrid.  And Linda Cardellini (Avengers: Age of Ultron) has been cast as the mother of Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake.
