Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.
Status Updates
Paradise (Hulu, Status: Renewed): The Nielsen Streaming rankings finally caught up to this show’s debut week and it placed in the Top 10 as expected at the Number 5 slot with an estimated 550 million minutes of viewing which is quite good for an original on Hulu. Disney had already been touting the show’s number and it has stirred up a fair amount of buzz leading to a second season renewal. The first season finale dropped this week.
Pantheon (Netflix, Status: Cancelled): The second season of this animated series finally became available to audiences in the U.S. on Netflix starting on February 21st. But in the two weeks since it has been streaming, the show has not made it to that streamer’s Top 10. This show was cancelled by AMC+ after one season and pulled from streaming, but the already completed second season did run in other parts of the world. There were some hopes that Netflix might greenlight a third year if viewership was good (more on that at this link), but neither the first season (released in November 2024) nor the second season has placed in the Netflix charts. Fans may want to make a Call to Action on the social networks to bring Pantheon more attention and perhaps a third season.
Severance (Apple TV+, Status: Renewal Possible): This series held in the Nielsen Streaming Top 5 for a third week in a row, hitting the Number 4 slot with an estimated 557 million minutes of viewing. It has not received a renewal yet, but work has begun on the third season and we should be hearing an announcement on this one soon.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (Disney+, Status: Renewed): This MCU series did not make it into the Nielsen streaming rankings for its premiere week, but that is not uncommon with animated entries. It was already renewed in advance for a second season and work has begun on its third year, so expect this one to stick around for a while.
