Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.
Status Updates
Severance (Apple TV+, Status: Renewal Possible): This series made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the week of its Season 2 premiere, placing at the Number 4 slot with an estimated 589 million minutes of viewing. That is a strong performance for an Apple TV+ entry, but it is not surprising considering the hype it carried into its second-season return. There has not been an official renewal for this one yet, but executive producer Ben Stiller has said that the writer’s room for Season 3 is being assembled now, so expect an announcement at any time.
Silo (Apple TV+, Status: Renewed): Apple TV+ had two genre entries in the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 for the week of January 13th, a rare occurrence for that streamer. Silo was in the chart for a third week, slipping to the Number 10 slot with an estimated 396 million minutes of viewing. That show has already been renewed through its fourth season and it will wrap up at that point.
Mayfair Witches (AMC, Status: Renewal Possible): This supernatural drama barely registered when it aired against the Super Bowl, pulling less than a 0.005 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic and only 96K total viewers. The competition was certainly high that night, but its numbers overall have been down notably in its second season. Since it is part of AMC’s Immortal Universe and could be making up slack in digital viewing on AMC+, I am still considering a third-season renewal as a possibility at this point. But this one is close to getting shifted to Bubble status.
Twilight of the Gods (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This fantasy series from Zack Snyder did not make it into the Netflix Top 10 during its first season run, but that is not uncommon for animated entries. Snyder has said that he has a “massive roadmap” for the show, so there are definitely plans to carry it into a second season and perhaps beyond. But there has been no movement toward a renewal of this one, so fans should probably make some noise on the social networks to bring it more attention.
