Sci Fi TV Highlights: A look at the upcoming schedule of sci fi and fantasy shows as well as recent news and/or trailers of note.
Sci Fi TV Premieres:
Pantheon (Netflix): Maddie, a bullied teen, receives support from someone online – her deceased father, David. His consciousness has been uploaded to the cloud after an experimental brain scan. Turns out, he’s not the only one. Season 2 premieres Friday with all episodes available for viewing.
Schedule Notes:
The first season of Pantheon–which was previously streaming on AMC+–became available on Netflix in November of last year and this week’s release of the second season will be the first time that has been available in the U.S. There is no word on whether Netflix is interested in producing a second season, but fan efforts could sway their decision. More on that at this link. Below are the full listings for the current week, and you can see all of the premieres for February and beyond at this link. The two-week view of the schedule is available here.

Sci Fi TV News of Note:
Netflix is taking another swing at the fantasy genre with the Dungeons & Dragons-based show The Forgotten Realms. The specifics of the show’s storyline have not been announced yet, but Deadline had this to say:
The proposed series will take place in the iconic campaign setting and centerpiece of the Dungeons & Dragons universe, a fantasy world released in 1987 that has become home to some of the brand’s most famous characters and launchpad for some of D&D’s most popular adventures.
Shawn Levy (Stranger Things) will be onboard as executive producer, and Drew Crevello (WeCrashed) will be writer-showrunner. Expect this one to debut at some point in 2026.
Meanwhile, Hulu has apparently decided that the fantasy genre is not for them as they have chosen not to go forward with the series adaptation of A Court of Thorns and Roses based on the books by Sarah J. Maas. Deadline gives the following description of that one:
A loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast, A Court of Thorns and Roses blends epic romance, adventure and political intrigue in a tale of a huntress who agrees to travel to a magical realm with a faerie lord in return for her family’s safety, only to fall for him and ultimately fight for that love when an ancient curse threatens to destroy the faerie and human realms.
There is no word at this point on whether the property is being shopped around to other venues.
An animated series is in the works based on the supernatural comic Nights put out by Image Comics. That takes place in 2003 in an alternate history where supernatural creatures exist alongside humans, and America is made up of just 31 states. The show is being produced by Titmouse and no network or streaming services is attached at this point.
In renewal news, Amazon has officially given the greenlight to a third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Work had already begun on that, and now the renewal has been confirmed.
Production has begun on the For All Mankind spin-off series Star City as well as Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter, and the Harry Potter series at HBO. You can read more about those at this link. In additional production news, Ann Dowd will be reprising her role of Aunt Lydia in the upcoming Handmaid’s Tale spin-off series The Testaments and Chase Infiniti has been cast in the role of Agnes.
