Sci Fi TV Production Report: Tracking the sci fi and fantasy shows currently moving into development/production based on the listings from Production Weekly. Note that appearing on that list does not guarantee that the series will move forward.
Following are the genre entries of note included in the listings from 2/6/2025:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Hulu): There have been talks of a reboot/revival of Buffy the Vampire Slayer for a while, and that one is now showing up in the Production Weekly listings for the current week. According to Variety, Sarah Michelle Gellar is in final talks to return to the role and Hulu is on the verge of ordering a pilot for the revival. But this would actually be a Next Generation-type series with the focus on a new slayer and Gellar onboard in a recurring role which is probably the best way to carry on the franchise. It is also likely that the show would not have the Buffy the Vampire Slayer title, but some variation of that. Gellar will also executive produce and Joss Whedon is not involved at this point after falling out of favor in Hollywood following multiple accusations that he created a toxic work environment on the sets of Buffy, Angel, and other productions he worked on. Expect to hear an official announcement on this one confirming the details of the series in the coming weeks.
Ahsoka (Disney+): This Star Wars series never received an official Season 2 renewal, Dave Filoni just confirmed that it was happening at the same time as the announcement for The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. And considering it has been nearly a year-and-a-half since the first season premiered, there might have been some doubt that it was actually moving forward. But it is showing up in the most recent Production Weekly listings, so it appears that the second season is finally in the works. With production just starting, though, it’s likely this one will not make it to the small screen until early 2026 at best.
