Hysteria! Ends at Peacock, Cancelled after One Season

Peacock is now 0 for 2 on its Fall genre entries, cancelling the supernatural drama Hysteria! only a couple of weeks after announcing the end of Teacup. Hysteria! premiered in October 2024 with little in the way of promotion and it did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings during its first season run. It did score well with critics and viewers, currently holding a 91% Fresh Rating and 87% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. And showrunner Matthew Scott Kane has indicated that he has at least four seasons planned for the series. But Peacock has not been very good at supporting its originals, and the show will now be cut short after one season, ending on a cliffhanger. There is no word at this point on whether it will be shopped around to other venues.

This brings the the Cancellation/Renewal Score for the 2024-25 season to 13 cancelled and ending sci fi and fantasy entries (29% of shows tracked) vs. 18 renewed (40%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons on our Cancellation Watch Page.

Hysteria! is set during the 1980s “Satanic Panic” and follows a group of high school outcasts who rebrand their struggling heavy metal band as a Satanic metal group to capitalize on their town’s sudden interest in the occult. Their actions inadvertently make them targets of the community’s witch hunt, especially as a series of bizarre events unfold. It stars Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia, Kezii Curtis, Nikki Hahn, Anna Camp, and Bruce Campbell.

The new year has just begun and more cancellation and renewal announcements should be on the way. You can see the status of all this season’s shows at our Cancellation Watch page. And be sure to follow this site as well as our Twitter and Mastodon accounts for updates and breaking news.
