Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.
Status Updates
Silo (Apple TV+, Status: Renewed): This series made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the week of December 30th, placing at the Number 9 slot with an estimated 417 million minutes of viewing. That is over a month after its Season 2 premiere, but still good for an Apple TV+ entry as that streamer does not have the viewership numbers of some of the bigger services. Silo has already been renewed through its fourth season, and it will wrap up at that point.
Castlevania: Nocturne (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): The second season of this animated series spent two weeks in the Netflix Top 10, and it has outpaced the viewership of the first season according to creative director Samuel Deats. If this one does continue to a third year, which looks promising at this point, they have indicated that they would like to do an adaptation of the Symphony of the Night storyline.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (Disney+, Status: Renewed): This animated MCU entry premiered two weeks ago and we have not seen any viewership numbers for it yet, but we did know that it had been renewed for a second season in advance of its premiere. Now Marvel Studios Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation Brad Winderbaum has confirmed that the show has been greenlit through its third year, so this one will be sticking around for a while.
Evil (Paramount+/Netflix, Status: Cancelled): The third and fourth seasons of this series became available on Netflix the week of December 30th and that launched it back into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings at the Number 5 slot with 736 million total viewers. Fans may hope that those viewership numbers will convince the streamer to produce a fifth season, but co-creator Robert King has said that is “probably a little too late to save the show”. Though he did go on to say that “anything could come out of this”, so if fans make a Call to Action for this one, perhaps it could continue.
Road Rage: Alex and her brother must ride the apocalypse highway to meet up with their family, otherwise they will find themselves cast with the savages. Buy now in eBook and print format

Cancellation/Renewal Score:
Peacock just announced that its supernatural drama Hysteria! will not be continuing to a second season (more on that at this link). Netflix also announced last week that The Sandman will be ending with its second season, but since we do not know when that will premiere, I am not adding that show to the tally yet. The Peacock announcement brings the score for the the 2024-25 season to 13 cancelled and ending sci fi and fantasy entries (29% of shows tracked) vs. 18 renewed (40%). Below are this season’s numbers, and you can see the list of shows and keep up with the score for the current and prior seasons throughout the week at our Cancellation Watch Page.
