Sci Fi TV Production Report: Tracking the sci fi and fantasy shows currently moving into development/production based on the listings from Production Weekly. Note that appearing on that list does not guarantee that the series will move forward.
Following are the genre entries of note included in the listings from 1/23/2025:
House of the Dragon (HBO): I had thought that production had already begun on the third season of this Game of Thrones spin-off, and perhaps it had because shows do tend to appear on the list multiple times. But that may have just been pre-production work, and the entry in the most recent listings may indicate that filming will begin soon. In any case, that means that the third season will almost certainly not be arriving until sometime in 2026 because this is an elaborate production and it takes time to complete the filming, special effects, and post-production work. So once again we will have a long gap between seasons of this fantasy entry.
The Creep Tapes (Shudder): There has been no official renewal announcement for this horror series, but the second season is showing up in the latest Production Weekly listings, so it appears that preparation is underway for that. The first season premiered in November 2024 with very little in the way of promotion and I have not seen any viewership numbers for it. But Shudder targets a very niche audience, and it is possible that they have been happy with the performance so far for this found-footage show which is a spin-off from the Creep films. I will be keeping an eye out for a renewal announcement and fans should take this as good news that this one appears to be headed to a second season.
Other genre entries from the current listings: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 (Paramount+), Dark Matter Season 2 (Apple TV+).
