Sci Fi TV Premieres:

Star Trek: Section 31 (Paramount+): Michelle Yeoh reprises her Star Trek: Discovery role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou, who joins a secret division of Starfleet. Tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, she also must face the sins of her past.  The movie premieres on Friday.

Schedule Notes:

The schedule is pretty sparse for sci fi and fantasy TV entries with currently only three days out of the week showing new episodes getting released. And it will stay that way for a while as February only has two shows set to premiere at this point. Sci Fi TV News of Note:

Plans were in place for the British sci fi comedy series Red Dwarf to return this year with three new episodes, and series stars Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, Danny John-Jules, and Robert Llewellyn are all onboard for that. But according to a conversation Charles had with Radio Times, the production has hit a snag:

I’m not sure that it will come back, to be honest. I know that the deal that we had to make it this year looks like that might not be happening now . . . I can’t really say any more on that because I don’t know much more, but I just know that there have been lots of conversations about cost, and I think [the episodes] might be too expensive . . . It’s not that we don’t want to do it, it’s a case of we’re trying to get it done… [it’s] happening in television all the time at the moment, there doesn’t seem to be that much money around.

The last we saw of the crew of Red Dwarf was the 2020 feature-length special The Promised Land. At this point, if fans want more episodes, they will need to make a Call to Action to bring the show more attention and get things moving.

Peacock just announced that its sci fi/horror series Teacup has been cancelled after one season. There is no word at this point on whether that one will be shopped around.

Production has begun on The Last of Us Season 3 and School Spirits Season 3 even though neither has received an official renewal notice. Also kicking off production are Vision Quest and Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, and you can read more about all of those at this link.
