Coming as no surprise, the sci fi/horror series Teacup has been cancelled by Peacock after one season. This one received very little in the way of promotion, and it did not chart in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings during its first season run. It has garnered decent reviews so far, currently holding a 77% Fresh Rating and 70% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes, but not many people know about it because Peacock has been bad about supporting its originals. Showrunner Ian McCulloch has indicated that he wants to continue the series into a second season, but that looks unlikely at this point. It is possible that the show could get shopped around, but fans would probably need to make some noise on the social networks to draw more attention to it.
This is the first cancellation announcement of 2025 and it brings the Cancellation/Renewal Score for the 2024-25 season to 12 cancelled and ending sci fi and fantasy entries (27% of shows tracked) vs 17 renewed (39%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons on our Cancellation Watch Page.
Teacup is set in a small, desolate town in rural Georgia, where a group of unlikely allies must band together when a mysterious force descends, wreaking havoc on their lives. As tensions rise and secrets come to light, the residents face not only the terrifying, unknown threat but also their own fears, prejudices, and past mistakes. It stars Yvonne Strahovski, Scott Speedman, Chaske Spencer, Émilie Bierre, Caleb Dolden, and Kathy Baker and it is based on Robert R. McCammon’s novel Stinger.
