Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.
Status Updates
Mayfair Witches (AMC, Status: Renewal Possible): This supernatural drama saw an improvement in its ratings with the second episode of its second season. It pulled in a 0.05 score based on same-day viewing in the 18-49 demographic with 330K total viewers. That is from the 0.02 rating and 249K total viewers it had for its premiere last week, but still down from its first season numbers. This show does have some pretty heavy competition in its timeslot, including end-of-season football as well as the playoffs, so AMC’s scheduling has done it no favors. I will keep an eye on its numbers, but the network seems committed to its Immortal Universe shows, so I am liking its chance for renewal at this point despite the soft start to its second season.
Secret Level (Prime Video, Status: Renewed): This video game-based series did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the week of its premiere, but that is not uncommon for animated entries. And even though it did not place in the Nielsen chart, it was apparently the largest new animated series debut for Prime Video according to the service, and it has already been renewed for a second season.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew (Disney+, Status: Renewal Possible): This Star Wars series has now failed to chart in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings across its first two weeks, making it one of the least-watched television shows in that franchise. The showrunners for Skeleton Crew do have plans for a second season, and it has received good marks on Rotten Tomatoes, currently holding a 91% Fresh Rating and 80% Audience Score. Fans will want to make some noise on the social networks to bring this one more attention and help improve viewership.
Twilight of the Gods (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This animated series has not made it into the Netflix Top 10 or the Nielsen Streaming Rankings during its first season run. Co-creator Zack Snyder does have plans for a second season, but the streamer has been silent on this one so far. Fans may want to make some noise on the social networks to bring the show more attention and improve its chances for renewal.
