Christmas is coming early for the animated DCU entry Creature Commandos as that one has been renewed for a second season. It is about halfway through its first season and I have not seen any viewership numbers for it yet, but apparently the streaming service is happy with its performance so far. It has also been well received by critics and viewers, currently holding a 95% Fresh Rating and 80% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. Creators James Gunn and Peter Safran had the following to say about the renewal:
We’re thrilled to team up with Max for another season of Creature Commandos mayhem. From our spectacular first season of Peacemaker to the astonishing run of The Penguin to the record-breaking launch of Creature Commandos, Max has consistently delivered above industry expectations and beyond our wildest imaginings. Thank you, Casey, Sarah, Pia, Sono and the entire team for your tremendous support of DC Studios. We are proud to call Max home.
The first season of the show consists of seven episodes and there has been no word yet on how many episodes the second season will have. The series will likely return either late 2025 or early 2026.
This announcement brings the Cancellation/Renewal Score for the 2024-25 season to 17 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (45% of shows tracked) vs. 11 cancelled and ending (29%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons on our Cancellation Watch Page.
Creature Commandos focuses on a black ops team assembled by Amanda Walker consisting of monsters who take on missions considered too dangerous for humans. The voice cast includes Indira Varma, Sean Gunn, Alan Tudyk, Zoë Chao, David Harbour, and Frank Grillo and this is the first official entry of the new DC Universe.
