Cancellation Watch: Secret Level Unlocks a Second Season, Arcane Enters the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, and More

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

Secret Level (Prime Video, Status: Renewed): This video game-based animated anthology premiered on December 10th, and according to Amazon, it delivered the largest new animated series debut for the service, outpacing even Invincible and The Legend of Vox Machina. The streamer has gone ahead and given the show the greenlight for a second season which should premiere late 2025 or early 2026. They have not announced the number of episodes, but it should be around the same number as the first season which totaled up to fifteen segments.

Arcane (Netflix, Status: Ending): This animated series entered the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the week of its premiere, coming in at the Number 8 slot with an estimated 476 million minutes of viewing. That show spent five weeks in the Netflix Top 10 (four in the Top 5), but its second season was announced in advance as its last. However, the streamer will be carrying on with other animated entries in the League of Legends universe.

The Penguin (HBO/Max, Status: Mini-Series): This spin-off from The Batman finally showed up in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings under the Acquired shows the week after its finale. It made it to the Number 9 slot with an estimated 595 million minutes of viewing. While it did not pull in streaming numbers similar to what we saw with House of the Dragon, it still performed well for HBO. It is intended as a mini-series, but there is always a chance they could revisit the characters at some point in the future.
