The post-apocalyptic drama Silo has officially been renewed by Apple TV+ for a third season and that will continue to a fourth year after which the show will wrap up. We had already received word that filming had started on the third season, and series star Rebecca Ferguson had previously indicated that a four-year arc was planned for the show. That has now been confirmed and it will allow the series to cover the story from the Hugh Howey books while also resolving all of its plot threads. Showrunner Graham Yost had the following to say about the renewal:
It has been a richly rewarding experience to adapt Hugh’s epic novels with our partners at Apple and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring this complete story to the screen over the course of four seasons. With the final two chapters of Silo, we can’t wait to give fans of the show an incredibly satisfying conclusion to the many mysteries and unanswered questions contained within the walls of these silos.
Silo has not made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings so far, but it has performed well relative to other Apple TV+ originals, and it currently holds a 92% Fresh Rating across its first two seasons according to Rotten Tomatoes. The second season is releasing episodes each week through January, and the third season should be on target to premiere in late 2025.
I had already moved this show to renewed status, so the Cancellation/Renewal Score for the 2024-25 season remains the same. That currently stands at 14 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (38% of shows tracked) vs. 11 cancelled and ending (30%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons on our Cancellation Watch Page.
Silo focuses on the final ten-thousand people alive on Earth who are living in a mile-deep home that protects them from the toxic and deadly world outside. Nobody knows the truth of why the silo was built and those who seek answers face deadly consequences. It stars Rebecca Ferguson, Rashida Jones, David Oyelowo, Common, Tim Robbins, and Harriet Walter and it is based on the Wool series of novels by author Hugh Howey.
