Scavengers Reign Will Not Have a Second Season on Netflix, but It Could Move to a Different Venue

For those holding out hope that the animated sci fi series Scavengers Reign would continue to a second season on Netflix, the creators have confirmed that will not be happening. That series first arrived on Max in November of 2023, but it was cancelled in May of 2024. It then showed up on Netflix at the end of that month, while also still streaming on Max, and there were hopes that it would find more of an audience at its new home and continue to a second season. But despite positive word-of-mouth buzz throughout the sci fi community, the show did not make it into the Netflix Top 10 with its encore run on that service. And co-creator Joe Bennett has confirmed in an Instagram Post that a second season is not happening on Netflix:

As of right now, Scavengers Reign is not being renewed for a second season.

I wanted to let everyone know directly because I really love our fanbase, they’ve been such champions for the show, and I don’t want to leave everyone hanging.

We’ve had to fight tooth and nail every step of the way to get this show made, starting all the way back in 2016 with the Scavengers short film to the release of the first season last year.

It’s a case study for believing in something and persevering through a million and one hurdles. But, it got made, thanks especially to so many people who supported it along the way, in big and small ways. I want to thank some of those people, starting with my co-creator Charles Huettner @charles.huettner , Chris Prynoski @chrisprynoski and everyone at @titmouseinc , my home base at @greenstreetpictures , the writers, directors, and so many incredible artists who worked tirelessly on the show, and the folks at Max who were incredible partners to work with.

But this is not the end. There is more story to be told, we are ready to make another season, and we produced in-house at Green Street a teaser for what was going to come in the second season.

Thanks again to everyone who watched and supported the show.

But as Bennett says in the post, this does not mean that Scavengers Reign will become yet another one-and-done sci fi series cast to the Television Wasteland. The creators have plans for a second season and they have created a teaser to help pitch it to other venues. So there is still a chance that this one will be back with more episodes at some point.

The fans can certainly help with these efforts by making some noise to support the show. It is still streaming on Netflix and Max, so they can stage watch parties to get the viewership up while also getting it trending on the social networks. Increased viewership will help with any attempts to convince another venue to pick the show up, and any buzz going around social media could give it a boost as well. This one has received a lot of accolades since it first arrived a year ago, and fan support can definitely help keep it going for a second season and possibly more.

Scavengers Reign follows the survivors of a damaged interstellar cargo ship who try to find their missing crewmates on the planet where they crashed. In their endeavors, they must deal with the odd ecosystem of this land, which can be both hostile and helpful. The voice cast includes Sunita Mani, Wunmi Mosaku, Alia Shawkat, Bob Stephenson, and Ted Travelstead.
