Sci Fi TV Highlights: A look at the upcoming schedule of sci fi and fantasy shows as well as recent news and/or trailers of note.

Sci Fi TV Premieres This Week:

Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance (Netflix): This is an all-new original animation composed of six 30-minute episodes focusing on the European front of the One Year War, which was the setting of the first Gundam series, Mobile Suit Gundam. All episodes will be available for viewing on Thursday.

Hysteria! (Peacock): When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported “supernatural activity” triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them. All episodes will be available for viewing on Friday.

American Horror Stories (Hulu): This anthology series features a different horror story each episode set in the world of American Horror Story. Season 4 premieres on Tuesday with all episodes available for viewing.

Schedule Notes:

Also premiering this week is Ghosts which returns for its fourth season on CBS Thursday at 8:30 PM EST. Sci Fi TV News of Note:

Season 2 of Severance is finally getting its debut on January 17th, and series writer and co-executive producer Mohamad El Masri was recently talking with IndieWire about the show, suggesting it could be heading for a third season and more:

There was always a thinking ahead to future seasons. Even in Season 2, we were talking about, what is the end game and how does this show end? A lot of work was talking about that. I think there’s a natural overlap that happens, especially with the second season of a show, that you’ve got to keep [the momentum] going. People are interested, people are watching, and now with Season 2, you really have to sort of think about, not just what is Season 2 going to deliver in a satisfying way, but how does this set up Season 3 and beyond?

Severance is one of Apple TV+’s most popular shows and it has received plenty of accolades, so there is a chance that it can stick around for a few more years.

Filming has wrapped on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and George R.R. Martin has the following to say about the show:

You may find the tone quite different from that of Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon; smaller in scale, more personal, with more humor, more focus on character… but there is danger and death as well. Lords and ladies and princes it has, but they share the stage with more smallfolk this time around.

That one is currently looking to premiere at some point in 2025.

In cancellation news, Netflix has decided not to move forward with a second season of its urban fantasy KAOS. There is no word at this point on whether it will get shopped around.

In scheduling news, Nautilus will premiere October 25th on Prime Video UK (you can see the trailer below). That show was cancelled by Disney+ before it began and picked up by AMC in the States and Amazon’s Prime Video in the UK. There is no word yet on when it will premiere on AMC.
