Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.
Status Updates
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Prime Video, Status: Renewal Possible): This show started out its second season at the top of the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, pulling in an estimated one billion minutes of viewing. That is lower than its first-season premiere, but still quite good for a streaming original. It has not been officially renewed for a third year, but word is that work has already begun on that.
Agatha All Along (Disney+, Status: Mini-Series): We have not seen the Nielsen numbers yet for this spin-off from Wandavision, but according to Disney+, the show has pulled in 9.3 million views for the premiere in its first seven days. That puts it behind the premiere of The Acolyte, and that Star Wars series was recently cancelled by the streaming service. Of course, a large part of that was related to the high cost to produce the show. Agatha All Along is tagged as a limited series, but if its numbers are deemed good enough, it could potentially continue into a second season.
From (MGM+, Status: Renewal Possible): This show has started its third season, but Nielsen does not track the numbers for either the MGM+ linear channel or streaming service. The first two seasons are currently performing well on Amazon, and the third season is getting some good buzz as well, so that could help carry it into a fourth year. But fans should certainly make some noise to help bring this one more attention.
Kaos (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This urban fantasy dropped out of the Nielsen Top 10 after four weeks, but for its premiere week it ranked at Number 4 in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings and pulled in an estimated 511 minutes of viewing. The show has also been getting plenty of good buzz and could be headed to a second season.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (AMC, Status: Renewed): This TWD spin-off had its second season premiere this past Sunday, but the Nielsen ratings data for cable channels is still hard to come by. The show has already been renewed for a third season, though, so it will stick around for a while.
