Sci Fi TV Highlights: Premiere for The Legend of Vox Machina Season 3, a New Robocop Series Is in the Works, and More

Sci Fi TV Highlights: A look at the upcoming schedule of sci fi and fantasy shows as well as recent news and/or trailers of note.

Sci Fi TV Premieres This Week:

The Legend of Vox Machina (Prime Video): Everything is at stake in the long-awaited Season Three of The Legend of Vox Machina. The Chroma Conclave’s path of destruction spreads like wildfire while the Cinder King hunts down Vox Machina. Our lovable band of misfits must rise above inner (and outer) demons to try and save their loved ones, Tal’Dorei, and all of Exandria. Season 3 premieres on Thursday.

Schedule Notes:

Wrapping up this week, Hulu’s Futurama will have its season finale on Monday, and that one has already been renewed through its fourteenth season. I had previously indicated that the Season 2 finale for The Ark was two weeks ago, but that one still had two more eps to go and wraps up Wednesday on Syfy. There has been no word on a third season of that one yet. Then on Thursday, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will release its Season 2 finale, and while it has not officially been renewed for a third season, work on that has already begun. Below are the full listings for the current week, and you can see all of the premieres for October and beyond at this link. The two-week view of the schedule is available here.

Sci Fi TV News of Note:

A new Robocop TV series is in the works at Amazon. Following is the logline which sounds very similar to the original movie:

A giant tech conglomerate collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime, a police officer who’s part man, part machine.

James Wan will be onboard as executive producer and it will be done in-house at Amazon MGM studies. This one is currently very early in the development phase, so expect more updates.

Will Gluck and Lyrical Media are working on a television adaptation of the romantic fantasy Powerless based on the novel of the same name by Lauren Roberts. Variety gives the following description for the property:

Powerless follows Paedyn, a cunning street thief from the slums of Ilya trying to make ends meet in a world where a great plague has decimated most of the population, and left the rest with special powers. All those without power were eliminated to preserve the elite, gifted society. Paedyn poses as a psychic to hide her true identity as powerless, until she finds herself thrown into the purging trials – a deadly competition held to showcase the elites’ powers – the one thing Paedyn lacks.

No studio or network is attached at this point.

In production news, filming has wrapped on the eighth and final season of Starz’s Outlander. The second half of the seventh season will air in November 2024 and the eighth season should arrive at some point in 2025.

In casting news, Kyle Chandler has stepped in to play Hal Jordan in the upcoming HBO series Lanterns after Josh Brolin exited from the production.  Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof are developing the series and it is based on the comics by Tom King.

In cancellation news, the horror series Chucky has been cancelled after three seasons, but as we have learned from that franchise, there is always a chance that the demon toy could bounce back.
