The Orphan Black sequel series Orphan Black: Echoes will not continue to a second season as AMC has decided to cancel it after one year. The show premiered in June 2024, and I have only seen sparse ratings information on it because Nielsen appeared to be very stingy with its numbers during the Summer months. However, the ratings I did see were not particularly impressive, and the show has only managed a 60% Tomatometer score and a 47% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. It also only averaged a 1.4 engagement score during the time it was airing according to TelevisionStats.com, which that site considers to be on the low side. AMC did at least put some promotion behind the show, apparently hoping to kickstart the franchise, but comparisons to the Emmy-nominated original (which many now consider a classic) were not favorable, and that appears to have hurt the sequel series.
AMC Studios has a stake in the show, so it seems unlikely that the property will be shopped around because they may want to take another crack at reviving it down the road. But perhaps its production company will check around to see if there is any interest from other venues. Fans should certainly make some noise on social networks to help bring this one more attention and assist with any efforts to get it relocated.
This is now the fifth cancellation in a row for the 2023-24 season as the tally on the cancellation side continues to go up. The current Cancellation/Renewal Score for that season is at 28 cancelled and ending sci-fi and fantasy entries (36% of shows tracked) vs. 36 renewed (46%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons on our Cancellation Watch Page.
Orphan Black: Echoes is set in the same universe as Orphan Black and takes place 37 years in the future. The series follows a new group of women whose lives intersect as they uncover dark conspiracies about their origins. It stars Krysten Ritter, Keeley Hawes, Amanda Fix, Avan Jogia, and James Hiroyuki Liao.
