Cancellation Watch: KAOS Slips in the Netflix Chart, Sugar and Sunny Both Move to Bubble Status, and More

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

KAOS (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This urban fantasy series slipped to Number 5 in the Netflix Top 10 in its third week, pulling in 22.4 million hours of viewing across 3.4 million households. Those are still good numbers and its engagement index remains high according to TelevisionStats.com, averaging a 28.2 score over the last month. If it holds in the Netflix charts for another couple of weeks, then the show should be on track for a second-season renewal.

Sugar (Apple TV+, Status: On the Bubble): With the cancellation of Time Bandits this week, Apple TV+ now has four sci fi and fantasy TV shows from the 2023-24 season that ended after one season, plus one cancelled after two seasons. That streamer used to be a safe place for genre entries, but the post-Peak TV crunch is taking its toll. Sugar never made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, but it did perform relatively well for an Apple TV+ original. There are plans for a second season, but that is certainly in doubt at this point and fans should make a Call to Action for this show on the social networks if they want it to stick around.

Sunny (Apple TV+, Status: On the Bubble): This is another Apple TV+ original that did not see any chart activity, and it has received very little in the way of buzz so far. I am moving it to Bubble status as well, and fans will need to make some noise supporting it if they want the show to continue to a second season.

Batman: Caped Crusader (Prime Video, Status: Renewed): This animated Batman series from Bruce Timm (who created 1992’s Batman: The Animated Series) has not made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings yet. But that is not uncommon for animated entries, and it was picked up in advance for two seasons so it will stick around for a while.
