Cancellation Watch: The Rings of Power Season 2 Has Strong Start for Amazon, Kaos Improves, and More

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Prime Video, Status: Renewal Possible): The Nielsen Streaming Rankings are getting further behind because that company is not updating them on a regular basis, and we have not seen their numbers for Season 2 of The Rings of Power yet. But according to Amazon, the series has pulled in 40 million viewers over its first eleven days despite mixed reviews on the current season. It has not been officially renewed for a third year, but I expect it will because of the commitment the streamer made when it acquired the property.

Kaos (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This fantasy entry improved to Number 3 in the Netflix Top 10 in its second week, pulling in 39.2 million hours of viewing across 5.9 million households. It has also been picking up some pretty good buzz and if the viewership holds up it could be headed to a second season.

Chucky (Syfy, Status: On the Bubble): There has still been no word on a fourth season of this show, and its ratings were down in its third year, so I am moving it to Bubble status. Fans are trying to stump for a fourth season, and there is a possibility that it could become a USA exclusive like Resident Alien. But the contracts for the cast and crew could be close to expiring, so a decision will need to be made soon.
