Sci Fi TV News of Note:
The Duffer Brothers (Stranger Things) are working together with Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) on the upcoming series The Boroughs for Netflix. Following is the official logline:
In a seemingly picturesque retirement community, a group of unlikely heroes must band together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing the one thing they don’t have — time.
The cast so far includes Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, and Bill Pullman and this will likely be looking at a late 2025 or early 2026 premiere.
A short teaser was released for FX’s upcoming series Alien: Earth (you can see that at this link) along with the synopsis:
When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat in FX’s highly anticipated TV series Alien: Earth from creator Noah Hawley.
That one should arrive during the first half of 2025.
James Darren passed away this past week at age 88. He is best known to sci fi TV fans as Dr. Tony Newman from Irwin Allen’s The Time Tunnel and Vic Fontane from Star Trek: DS9.
In cancellation news, MGM+ will not be picking up a third season of the sci fi series Beacon 23, though there is a possibility it will be shopped around.
In production news, Todd Stashwick (who played Captain Liam Shaw on Star Trek: Picard) will be joining the upcoming Vision series on Disney+. Terry Matalas, who was showrunner for Season 3 of Picard, will be helming the MCU series.
In scheduling news, Max has set December 5th as the premiere date for its animated DC series Creature Commandos. And production has started on the sixth and final season of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale with Spring 2025 set as the release window.
