Sci Fi TV News of Note:

The Starfleet Academy TV series has begun filming and has released a photo of the full cast. Holly Hunter will play the captain and the cadets will be played by Sandro Rosta, Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané and Zoë Steiner. Trek veterans Tig Notaro (Discovery) and Robert Picardo (Voyager) will reprise their roles as Jett Reno and The Doctor respectively. And Paul Giamatti and Gina Yashere will be onboard as recurring characters. Following is the official description of the show:

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy introduces viewers to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.

Expect this one to arrive at some point in 2025 on Paramount+.

In cancellation news, Netflix has chosen not to bring back Dead Boy Detectives for a second season. That one is tied to the universe of The Sandman, though, so perhaps the characters could crossover on that show at some point.

The CW continues to rearrange its schedule for the Fall season. It pulled The Librarians: The Next Chapter from the lineup, and that has since moved over to TNT (more on that at this link). Now, Superman & Lois has a new premiere date as it will be moving to Monday nights at 8 PM EST and its fourth season will bow on October 7th.
