Syfy is losing another scripted original as the cable network has cancelled its horror dramedy Reginald the Vampire after two seasons. That show was not a strong performer in its first year, averaging only a 0.04 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic, though it did get renewed for a second season. Its numbers dropped even further when it returned for its second year in May 2024, averaging only a 0.02 score in the demo for the weeks where data is available, and the network execs decided not to bring it back for a third year. I did not have that one as a Bubble show because SurrealEstate had the same ratings average in Fall, yet still got renewed for a third season. But that show has international partnerships keeping it afloat which makes it more viable for Syfy. The network also just parted ways with Resident Alien, though that one will be moving to the USA Network, and Chucky is still waiting for word on whether it will return for a fourth season. There is no word at this point on whether Reginald the Vampire will be shopped around to other venues.
With this announcement, the Cancellation/Renewal Score for the current season is now at 20 cancelled and ending sci fi and fantasy entries (28% of shows tracked) vs. 29 renewed (41%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons at our Cancellation Watch Page.
Reginald The Vampire follows a vampire who does not quite fit in with the other beautiful, fit, and vain bloodsuckers but who discovers that he has some special powers that will help him survive. It stars Jacob Batalon, Mandela Van Peebles, Em Haine, Georgia Waters, and Marguerite Hanna and it is based on the Fat Vampire series of books by Johnny B. Truant.
