Sci Fi TV News of Note:

HBO has given a straight-to-series order for the live-action Lanterns which will focus on the Green Lanterns in general, but give specific attention to the John Stewart and Hal Jordan. Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, The Leftovers) will be onboard as executive producer and writer and Chris Mundy (True Detective) will be the showrunner. A Green Lantern project has been in the works at HBO/Max for a while, originally with Greg Berlanti attached but now a new crew will be moving forward with the series.

And speaking of HBO, Warner Bros. Discovery is looking at a change of strategy with its premium cable channel and will be moving most of its big-budget series to that platform.  Shows currently in development like the Harry Potter reboot and the It prequel series Welcome to Derry will now be HBO originals instead of Max exclusives as previously announced.  They will still stream on Max, but they will carry the HBO name to give more focus to that channel.  The above-announced Lanterns series will also count as an HBO original.

Over at CBS, a new procedural-with-a-twist is in the works based on the monster-hunter character Van Helsing.  Deadline gives the following description for the project:

The series is a contemporary take on the monster hunter Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, who uses his uniquely inquisitive mind working alongside his ex, relentless FBI special agent Mina Harker, to solve New York City’s most harrowing cases.

Elementary creator Rob Doherty will be onboard as executive producer and the network may be looking at this as a Spring 2025 addition to its schedule.

In renewal and cancellation news, Interview with the Vampire has been renewed for a third season by AMC, while Apple TV+ has cancelled The Big Door Prize after two seasons.

In scheduling news, I have just learned that the Apple TV+ Time Bandits series is set to debut in July on the 24th.
