Apple TV+ Has Cancelled The Big Door Prize After Two Seasons

Apple TV+’s fantasy dramedy The Big Door Prize will not be getting the prize of a third season as the streamer has confirmed its cancellation to TVLine. That series arrived in Spring 2023 with little promotion and received an early second-season renewal shortly after it premiered. It returned in Spring 2024 and again received very little in the way of a marketing push, and it did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings. It has received decent marks from critics and viewers, currently holding an 86% Fresh Rating and 75% Audience Score at Rotten Tomatoes. And since Apple TV+ has been supportive of its originals, I assumed the show would be getting at least a third season to wrap up its storylines. But the streamer may be feeling the pressure from the post-Peak TV crunch and could be clearing out its lesser-performing shows. There is no word at this point on whether the series will be shopped around, but fans should definitely stage a Call to Action on the social networks if they want it to continue.

This announcement brings the Cancellation/Renewal Score for the current season to 17 cancelled and ending sci fi and fantasy entries (24% of shows tracked) vs. 29 renewed (41%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons at our Cancellation Watch Page.

The Big Door Prize focuses on the quiet town of Deerfield which has its normal routines disrupted when a mysterious machine appears in the local general store. It arrives seemingly out of nowhere and promises to reveal each individual’s “Life Potential”, and it has a notable impact on the people who choose to use it. The show stars Chris O’Dowd, Gabrielle Dennis, Damon Gupton, Josh Segarra, and Sammy Fourlas and it is based on the book of the same name by M. O. Walsh.

We are almost at the end of the 2023-24 season and I expect more announcements to come over the next month or so. You can see the status of all this season’s shows at this link. And be sure to follow this site and the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site for updates and breaking news.
