There has not been much need to look at the broadcast network Scorecard this season seeing as so few sci fi and fantasy entries have been airing on those channels lately. But as we approach the end of the regular season, it is worth seeing where these shows stand in the rankings. There are only five original genre entries on the Big Four nets (ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC) this year, two in the Top 30, and one on The CW.
Highest on the list is the CBS supernatural comedy Ghosts which is currently at Number 13 (an appropriate number for a scary show) among broadcast network shows. It continues to perform above average for comedies on CBS and all shows on that network, and not surprisingly it has already been renewed. The network aired some episodes of the British version of that show (which the U.S. series is based on) in Fall due to the strike, and that ranks at Number 95.
Next is FOX’s animated fantasy comedy Krapopolis which is currently rounding out the Top 30. That show is there mostly on the strength of its Fall performance when it had strong lead-ins from football. Its numbers have dropped notably since returning from hiatus in January, but it has already been renewed through a third season.
We have to go much further down the list for the next genre entry where ABC’s supernatural comedy Not Dead Yet is languishing at the Number 85 slot. That show is performing below average for sitcoms on that network and compared to all ABC shows, and I currently have it at Bubble status.
Next up is NBC’s Quantum Leap which is at the Number 88 slot. That show was much higher on the Scorecard at the end of Fall, coming in at Number 36. But in January, NBC moved it to Tuesdays at 10 PM EST and viewership dropped, leading to its cancellation. I thought it would at least get a final season (like La Brea), but NBC execs apparently lost patience with the show. Lowest in the rankings for the Big Four is La Brea at Number 110. That show completed its third and final season in February.
Below are the Top 30 broadcast network shows (plus all the genre entries) for non-repeat, non-special, and non-sports programming based on ratings results through April 7th. The comparisons are against ratings averages for other shows in the same category (drama, comedy, reality, etc.) on the same network and also against the overall average for the network. Continue on to see the rankings for The CW which I separated from the Big Four broadcast networks.

Unlike prior seasons, The CW only aired one genre entry this year and that was a foreign acquisition. The Swarm performed relatively well in Fall and ranked at Number 3 in the prior Scorecard. More shows have since aired on the network and it has dropped to a tie for Number 11. Its numbers are still decent and I assume that The CW would air a second season if one is produced. There has been no announcement on that yet, and that will be determined by its global viewership.
