CBS Has Renewed Ghosts for a 4th Season

In an announcement that was pretty much expected, CBS has given a fourth season renewal to its supernatural comedy Ghosts. That show has been a hit for the network, sometimes outperforming top-ranked sitcom Young Sheldon, and it posted ratings highs in same-day viewing with its Season 3 premiere. The fact that it had already been renewed for a third season improved the chances of the fourth-year nod because that gets it close enough to an episode count that is attractive to the syndication market, and that is where shows (particularly sitcoms) really start to turn a profit. Ghosts has performed particularly well this season and last with Young Sheldon as its lead-in, and it could inherit the lead spot on Thursdays in the 2024-25 season with that Big Bang Theory spin-off wrapping up. In addition, I would not be surprised if Ghosts were to stick around for several more seasons allowing it to pad out its syndication package.

With this announcement, that brings the Cancellation/Renewal Score for the current season to 20 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (42% of shows tracked) vs. 9 cancelled and ending (19%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons at our Cancellation Watch Page.

Ghosts follows New Yorkers Samantha and Jay Arondekar who inherit a country mansion only to find that it is falling apart and inhabited by ghosts. Jay cannot see the spirits in the house, but after Sam has a near-death experience, she can see and speak with them. It stars Rose McIver, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Brandon Scott Jones, Danielle Pinnock, and Richie Moriarty and it is based on the British sitcom of the same name.
