Sci Fi TV Highlights: A look at the upcoming schedule of sci fi and fantasy shows as well as recent news and/or trailers of note.
Sci Fi TV New:
The Game of Thrones spin-off series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, which follows the adventures of Dunk and Egg, has moved into pre-production at HBO per an announcement during the Warner Bros. Discovery earnings call. No casting announcements have been made yet, but House of the Dragon writer Ira Parker is working on the show and word is that it will be faithful to the George R.R. Martin novellas it is based on. Following is the logline for the series:
A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.
The show is currently targeting a late 2025 release for its six-episode first season, but that is very tentative at this point.
American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy has a new horror series in the works at FX titled Grotesquerie. Not much is known about it at this point, but it will star Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance, and Lesley Manville and it is set for a Fall 2023 premiere. He released the following teaser on Instagram with a cryptic voice-over from Niecy Nash-Betts:

In a shakeup behind the scenes at the Apple TV+ production of Foundation, David S. Goyer will be stepping back from his showrunner duties allegedly due to a dispute over the show’s budget for its upcoming third year. He will continue to write for the series and will retain the showrunner title, but he will be less involved in the day-to-day running of the series.
Marc Guggenheim has walked back his previous comments about a potential television series spinning out of Brandon Routh’s Superman Returns movie. He clarified that he was referring to past conversations with the act and nothing is currently in the works related to that property.
In scheduling news, Prime Video’s The Boys has received a June 13th release date for its fourth season, and The Spiderwick Chronicles will have its premiere on The Roku Channel on April 19th.
