Sci Fi TV Highlights: Season Finale for Shining Vale, Charlie Bone TV Series in the Works at Amazon, and More

Sci Fi TV Highlights: A look at the upcoming schedule of sci fi and fantasy shows as well as recent news and/or trailers of note.

Schedule Notes:

Starz’s supernatural dramedy Shining Vale wraps up its second season on Friday this week. There has been no word on a third season of that one and the ratings have been quite low, so its status is uncertain at this point. NBC’s Quantum Leap is on hiatus for the rest of the year and will return with new episodes on January 2nd. I also realized that I failed to include Ghosts UK on the schedule but I have it there now. CBS is currently running two episodes each week of the British version of Ghosts until the third season of that show is ready to kick off in February. Below are the listings for the current week, and you can see all of the premieres for December and beyond at this link. The two-week view of the schedule is available here.

Sci Fi TV News

Amazon has a pilot in the works based on the Charlie Bone YA fantasy novels by Jenny Nimmo. Deadline gives the following description for the project:

The adaptation follows Charlie Bone, a kid who has always been labeled a ‘problem’. He’s been expelled from every school in London. But he can’t help it – his brain just doesn’t work like other people’s. He has been haunted by ‘The Noise’ ever since his dad mysteriously died. His last chance comes when he’s sent to Bloor’s Academy, a school for challenging teenagers. Here, the pioneering principal, Dr. Bloor (Fiennes), sees things differently – he is convinced that what others see as flaws are, in fact, undiagnosed gifts, a kind of superpower, even. Bone must negotiate friendships, crushes, hormones, family dramas and most perilously, a dangerous conspiracy at the heart of the establishment.

Newcomer Cory McClane has been tapped as Charlie Bone and the cast also includes Joseph Fiennes, Carmen Ejogo, Emma Sidi, Orlando Norman, and Beth Alsbury. Max Gill is writing the pilot with Rory Aitken and Eleanor Moran onboard as executive producers.

In renewal and cancellation news, Black Mirror has received a seventh season renewal from Netflix, while NBC’s La Brea has been confirmed to be ending with its upcoming third season.

For those looking for an update on Peacemaker Season 2, James Gunn has claimed that he is back to writing it, though no firm return date has been set yet.
