Cancellation Watch: Ratings results and status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.
Nielsen Streaming Rankings:
Disney+’s Secret Invasion entered the Nielsen Top 10 for originals the week of June 19th to 25th. That was the week of its premiere and it was at the Number 5 slot with an estimated 461 million minutes viewed. That show is considered a mini-series but could continue to a second season. Netflix’s Black Mirror remained at Number 1 and improved to 1.5 billion minutes viewed for the week. That one should be on track for a seventh-season renewal. Paramount+’s Star Trek Strange New Worlds slipped one slot to Number 8 with 393 million minutes watch and it has already been renewed for a third season. The animated series Skull Island had its premiere on Netflix that week but did not make it into the charts. Following are the results for all the sci fi and fantasy TV shows in the Nielsen streaming charts for the week (the number in parenthesis is the prior week rank):

Linear Ratings Results of Interest:
On Sunday, The Walking Dead: Dead City held at a 0.12 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 618K total viewers for its first season finale. That was steady with the prior week numbers and decent for a basic cable entry these days. That show received a second season renewal over the weekend.
On Thursday, FX’s What We Do in the Shadows slipped to a 0.09 rating with 251K total viewers, but that one makes up the slack with digital and delayed viewing and it has already been renewed for a sixth season. On Monday, The Rising improved to a 0.04 rating with 331K total viewers for its finale on The CW. That acquisition has already been cancelled in its home country of Britain.
