Peacock has not issued an official cancellation announcement for its AI-drama Mrs. Davis yet, but it appears that the show will not be continuing to a second season. The streamer had originally entered it in the comedy category for the Emmy’s but has since shifted it to the limited series designation. That does not mean that a second season cannot happen at some point, but it signals that there are no immediate plans for the show to continue. It did wrap up most of its storylines, but director Owen Harris has hinted that there were seeds for a second season in the finale. Mrs. Davis was created by Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers, Watchmen) and has received much acclaim, currently holding a 91% Fresh Rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 for its premiere week, but that is not a surprise since only a handful of episodes were available that week. It is a costly show to produce and the streaming services are cutting back on spending, so that may have influenced the decision, and Peacock does not have a good track record with originals so far. It is possible that the streamer could consider bringing the show back for a second season further down the road, but all indications are that it is one-and-done for now.
I am not going to give this show the mini-series designation for the Cancellation/Renewal Score because it does appear that a second season was on the table at one point. So I will move it to the ending column which brings us to 33 genre shows cancelled or ending so far this season (40% of shows tracked) vs. 34 renewed (41%). You can see the detailed list of shows from the current season and keep up with the score throughout the week at our Cancellation Watch Page.

The story was self contained. As much as I liked this show I’m happy with it as is. Not everything needs to be continued.
