Status Updates: Warrior Nun, Star Wars The Bad Batch, Wolf Pack, and More

Status Updates: Updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows currently airing/streaming or those waiting for word on their fates. You can see the status of all the active, returning, and recently cancelled/ended shows from the current season at our Cancellation Watch Page.

Warrior Nun (Netflix)

(2nd Season Ended, Cancelled): This supernatural drama remains cancelled, but fans continue to fight for it and the show’s creator is encouraging their efforts. Simon Barry put out the following tweet this week urging the fans to keep up the good work:

You will notice that he says when the show “is” renewed, so perhaps he has some behind-the-scenes information or he is at least trying to stay positive. It certainly seems like other venues should be interested in this one because it has a large fan following. It is just a matter of wresting the rights from Netflix at this point. Star Wars: The Bad Batch (Disney+)

(2nd Season Ended, Renewal Possible): The second season of this series has just wrapped up and it ended on a cliffhanger, so obviously a third season is planned. There has been no word on it yet, but I would expect this one to be back for at least another year. As I mentioned last week, viewership is down for The Mandalorian and there appears to be some Star Wars franchise fatigue in the air, but it is unlikely that Disney will just cut The Bad Batch short even if viewership has dropped off.

Wolf Pack (Paramount+)

(1st Season Ended, Renewal Possible): This show has wrapped up its first season and we are now awaiting word on its fate. I have seen no viewership numbers for it, but Paramount+ is not currently tracked in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings. The show has made it into the Parrot Analytics In Demand charts, so it has garnered some attention in its first season. And in a recent interview, Sarah Michelle Gellar indicated that there are plans for a second season. I like its chances at this point, but fans may want to make some noise to support the show in order to boost its chances of returning for a second year.

Tales of the Walking Dead (AMC)

(1st Season Ended, On the Bubble): Will this be the first entry in the Walking Dead franchise to get cancelled? Probably not, because if it doesn’t continue beyond its first season, AMC will likely just retrofit it as a mini-series. The show did not draw much of an audience (the lowest of any of the TWD entries) and it only has a 52% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes.  (You can read my review at this link.) But since it is an anthology, it can always return at some point. AMC is focused on the other spin-offs at this point, but Scott Gimple has indicated that he would like to do a second season of Tales, so don’t count it out yet.
