Babylon 5 Will Be Leaving HBO Max in January

Streaming Sci Fi TV: Tracking down sci fi and fantasy shows of interest on the streaming services. Note that streaming availability can change with little to no notice.

HBO Max has been purging content the last few months in an effort to cut, and that includes dropping shows from the past Warner Bros. catalog so that they do not have to pay residuals. (CBR.com has a good article on what got all this started at this link.) One of these cuts includes the classic sci fi series Babylon 5 which has been available on that service in a remastered edition (you can read more about the show at this link). That one is currently scheduled to depart from HBO Max on January 25th, so you have about one month to binge all five seasons in case you had it on your watch list. I expect that it will show up on another service before too long, likely ad-supported.

Warner Bros. Discovery has decided to move both recent and past shows to FAST (free ad-supported streaming TV) platforms in order to monetize them and that includes recently cancelled genre entries like Westworld, The Nevers, and Raised by Wolves (all of which have already been pulled from HBO Max). This will certainly have people rethinking whether they will keep their subscription to HBO Max, especially if this content purge continues.

At this point, you have some time to watch B5 and you may want to take advantage of that opportunity because there is no telling when it will be available again or where. Here are four other shows scheduled to leave HBO Max in January:

Person of Interest (January 28th)
Batman: The Brave and the Bold (January 31st)
Justice League (January 31st)
Justice League Unlimited (January 31st)
