Cancellation Watch: Ghosts Is Likely Headed to Third Season Renewal, Reginald the Vampire Is Inching Closer to Cancellation, and More

Cancellation Watch: Ratings results for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks and cable channels as well as status updates and breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries. See our Digital Ratings posts for the viewership of the streaming shows.

Linear Ratings Results of Interest:

On Thursday, Ghosts improved to a 0.57 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 6.6 million total viewers. That show is currently one of the top-rated comedies across the broadcast networks and should be on track for a third-season renewal. It will air only one more new episode this year (on December 8th) and then return from its Mid-Season hiatus the first week in January.

On Wednesday on Syfy, Reginald the Vampire fell out of the Cable Top 150 for the night, meaning that it had a rating of 0.03 (the lowest score in the Top 150) or lower. That show has continued to lose a large portion of the audience from lead-in series Chucky, usually 50% or more, and likely will get kicked to the curb like Astrid & Lilly Save the World and Day of the Dead did last season. But I have not moved it to Cancellation Likely status yet in the case that international partnerships are keeping it afloat. A Call to Action from fans is desperately needed at this point.

On The CW on Wednesday, Kung Fu slipped to a 0.05 rating with 390K total viewers. Considering the fact that the current CW boss has indicated that only a couple of shows on the network will survive into next season, this one’s chances for a fourth year continue to look grim unless it has international partnerships and/or syndication helping it (a very real possibility). This is another show that needs its fans making noise on the social networks.

Last Monday, Quantum Leap improved to a 0.40 rating with 2.8 million total viewers for its Fall finale. Those aren’t spectacular numbers, but possibly enough to keep it going into a second season. If NBC decides to stop programming the 10 PM EST hour, though, this show could be one of the casualties.

On Sunday, Interview With The Vampire slipped to a 0.09 rating with 433K total viewers for its season finale. It has already been renewed, but it did not get off to a strong start in its first season based on its linear viewing numbers. Showtime’s Let the Right One In did not make it into the Cable Top 150 again and remains firmly On the Bubble seeing as it has barely registered in its first season.
