Linear Ratings Results of Interest:
The Sunday ratings numbers are running behind, so I will update this post with those once available.
Last Monday, NBC’s Quantum Leap slipped a second week in a row to a 0.33 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 2.2 million total viewers. That plus its delayed-viewing gains might be enough to keep it safe for now, but if the network decides to stop programming in the 10 PM EST hour, this could be one of the casualties. HBO’s Avenue 5 again did not place in the Cable Top 150 on Monday as that show appears to be on its way out.
On Tuesday, The Winchesters improved to a 0.09 rating with 497K total viewers, but that may not matter as it appears that the new owners could be ushering out most of the shows connected to the prior regime (more on this show’s status below). Over on NBC, La Brea improved a bit to a 0.35 score with 3.5 million total viewers. I still have it as a possible renewal, but we will see how it tracks through the rest of its second season.
On Wednesday, Stargirl held at a 0.09 rating with 497K total viewers, but the network just announced its cancellation (more on that at this link). Kung Fu was at a 0.06 score with 454K total viewers and it could be following Stargirl out the door (more on that below). Over on Syfy, Chucky averaged a 0.18 rating including its simulcast on USA which may keep it going to a third season while Reginald the Vampire remained low at a 0.04 rating with 166K total viewers and I am moving it to Bubble status (more on that below). FX’s American Horror Story had another double-episode airing and averaged a 0.11 score with 324K total viewers. It has already been renewed through its thirteenth season.
On Thursday, Ghosts improved slightly for CBS to a 0.53 rating with 6.8 million total viewers. It remains one of the most-watched comedies this season and appears to be on track for a third-season renewal.
On Sunday, AMC’s The Walking Dead slipped a bit to a 0.29 rating with 1.5 million total viewers as it approaches its series finale. In the lead-out slot, Interview With The Vampire slipped to a 0.07 rating with 465K total viewers, but it has already been renewed for a second season. Showtime’s Let the Right One In did not make it into the Cable Top 150 for that night and I will add those numbers when available.

Status Updates:
The Winchesters (CW, On the Bubble): The numbers have been decent for this show so far, especially for a CW entry. But the cancellation of Stargirl–one of the network’s higher-rated shows–indicates that new ownership will be going through a house-cleaning and that no show is safe (more on that at this link). They may keep around a few shows from the prior regime if they are performing well enough in the ratings, but those will also need to fit into the “wholesome” programming image the network is going for and skew to the older audience it will be targetting. So if The Winchesters does not check all the right boxs, it could be one-and-done. And it has already been capped at only thirteen episodes for its first season.
Kung Fu (CW, On the Bubble): This show’s numbers are down year-over-year, and it could get caught up in the same house-cleaning by the new owners as I mentioned above. Kung Fu was the second highest-rated show on The CW the last time I compiled the Scorecard, but Stargirl was just behind it at Number 3 and that did not keep it from getting cancelled. Expect a complete makeover for The CW by next season, and pretty much all of the current genre entries could be casualties.
Reginald the Vampire (Syfy, On the Bubble): This show is currently averaging only a 0.05 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic which is below its lead-in from Chucky and close to the levels that got Astrid & Lilly Save the World cancelled last season. It has received some good buzz and got a little bit more in the way of promotion than Astrid & Lilly, but Syfy has typically been unforgiving with its underperforming shows. If Reginald has developed any sort of fanbase, they should start making some noise on the social network to bring more attention to the show.
Little Demon (FXX, Renewal Possible): This show has some notable talent attached to it with Danny DeVito and Aubry Plaza leading up the voice cast along with guest spots from names like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dave Bautista, Mark Ruffalo, and more. It averaged a 0.08 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demo which is decent for an FXX entry, and it actually has performed better than most CW shows this season. It definitely has a chance to return for a second season, and fans should give it a boost by making some noise on the social networks.
