Linear Ratings Results of Interest:

On Monday last week, NBC’s Quantum Leap revival improved slightly to a 0.36 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 2.6 million total viewers. Those are still not strong numbers, but apparently network execs are happy enough with the performance of the show to give it six more episodes for its first season which will bring it to eighteen total. That is short of the typical 22-ep full season order, but more than what La Brea received (ten for the first season and 14 for the second) and will give it time to build up an audience.

On Tuesday on NBC, La Brea slipped a bit with its second episode to a 0.44 rating in the demo with 3.9 million total viewers. It lost 37% of the audience from its lead-in from The Voice, but still performed well for its timeslot and did not lose too much from its premiere numbers.

Over on The CW on Wednesday, Kung Fu had a 0.07 rating with 402K total viewers for its Season 3 premiere which was down just slightly from its prior year average. Stargirl improved a tick to a 0.05 rating with 366K total viewers, but it is unclear how long either of these shows will stick around with new ownership now in place.

Over on Syfy, Chucky returned for its second season and posted a 0.14 rating with 355K total viewers and a 0.15 score with 320K total viewers for its simulcast on USA. Those numbers are down slightly from its Season 1 premiere but still good for a basic cable network these days and could keep it going into a third season. Leading out from that, Reginald the Vampire had a 0.08 rating with 294K total viewers for its debut. That is about in line with what Resident Alien was pulling during the second half of its second season, so that could keep the show afloat for now.

On Thursday, Ghosts slipped to a 0.49 rating with 6.2 million total viewers for its second episode, but it still managed to improve on its lead-in from Young Sheldon based on viewership in the demo. That supernatural comedy is performing quite well so far in its second season and appears to be on track for a third-year renewal.

On Sunday, AMC’s Interview With The Vampire slipped to a 0.09 rating with 525K total viewers which has to be making network execs somewhat nervous. The cable channel invested heavily in that property and it has not delivered on linear viewing yet. It may be making up slack with digital, and it has already been renewed for a second season, but this one definitely does not count as a hit at this point.

In the lead-in hour, The Walking Dead improved slightly to a 0.29 rating with 1.3 million total viewers as its airs out its final episodes. Over on HBO, House of the Dragon slipped a bit to a 0.40 rating with 1.7 million total viewers and that one has already been renewed for a second season.

Showtime’s new vampire drama Let the Right One In barely registered with it premiere and did not show up in the initial listings for Sunday.  It had a 0.02 score with 54K total viewers which is about the level that The Man Who Fell to Earth had and that one was just cancelled.  It will be starting it out On the Bubble

Status Updates:

Westworld (HBO, Renewal Possible): There has been no word on a fifth season of this show yet, but co-creator Jonathan Nolan appears optimistic that it will return for at least one more year: “We always planned for a fifth and final season. We are still in conversations with the network. We very much hope to make them.” The ratings were down in its fourth year, but this is a high-profile series and HBO should be inclined to give it a proper conclusion.

Young Justice (HBO Max, On the Bubble): According to a report from TVLine there are no current plans for a fifth year.  The show is not officially cancelled at this point but could get lost in the shuffle with all the shakeups at HBO Max due to the Warner Bros. merger with Discovery.  Fans should definitely take to the social networks with a Call to Action if they want this one to return for a fifth season.

The Book of Boba Fett (Disney+, On the Bubble): Disney+ has remained silent on the fate of this show, including no mention or even hint of a second season at this year’s Star Wars celebration. The show received mixed reviews from critics and fans, but certainly left its story open-ended after its first year. Disney+ has not been one to cancel its originals, but it does sometimes retcon them as mini-series. Should this show not return for a second season, the characters could continue over to The Mandalorian.

Undone (Prime Video, Renewal Possible): There has been no word on this animated, time-bending series since it released its second season in April of this year. That may not be a good sign, but this one has received some attention at awards time and the streamer may let it come back for one more season to wrap up all of its storylines.
