The Katee Sackhoff-led sci fi series Another Life will not be returning for a third season on Netflix as the streamer has chosen to cancel the show according to a tweet from the star:
I’d like to thank everyone single person who watched & supported Another Life on @netflix To our crew & cast thank you for always working so hard & being prepared. I wish we could do more seasons but sadly it’s just not in the cards 🚀 See you on the next adventure ❤️ Love Niko

The news does not come as a huge surprise, in fact it was more of a surprise that it got a second season because opinions on the show have been on the negative side. It currently holds only a 6% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes–though its does have a 69% Audience Score–and for the most part it has been ignored or derided by the sci fi community. Its second season, which premiered in October 2021, only made it one week in both the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 for original series and the Netflix Top 10. The show did wrap up most of its storylines at the end of its second year, so the creative team appeared to have been aware that a third season was unlikely. Whether this one will be shopped around to other venues remains to be seen, but Sackhoff’s message appears to indicate the show is pretty much done at this point. It also seems unlikely that there would be much in the way of fan support for the show to continue.
In Another Life, an alien object lands on Earth which prompts Captain Niko Breckinridge (Sackhoff) to take the spaceship Salvare and a young crew on a dangerous mission to the stars to discover its origins. It stars Katee Sackhoff, Justin Chatwin, Samuel Anderson, Blu Hunt, and A.J. Rivera.

This series is maddening. It starts off terribly IMO, the characters are way over the top and unconvincingly young to be put in charge of a sophisticated futuristic starship. There’s an onboard computer that manifests itself in all TOO human form, again unconvincing. I almost didn’t continue with this show because it started off so bad but I stuck with it because I love a good sci-fi story. The story evolved into something great though. I overlooked my initial reaction to the characters and got used to them, even though they still fell into the unconvincing category for me in some of the episodes. There’s a lot of little side storylines that are developed as well to flesh out the different characters – with some of them ending up dying never to be seen again. I’m not sure where the show finally hit its’ groove but I feel like it finally did and I happily went along for the ride. The special effects and the sets look great. I would have rated this series even higher had it not stumbled so much at times. So, by the end of season 2, I have to give it an 8/10. It’s worth watching.
Good riddance to an absolutely terrible show.
