Status Updates: Updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows currently airing/streaming or those waiting for word on their fates. You can see the status of all the active, returning, upcoming, and recently cancelled/ended shows at our Cancellation Watch Page.
SuperMansion (Crackle)
(Completed 3rd Season, Ended): There has been no official announcement on this show, but it appears to be done for now. It started as a Crackle original, but with that streamer changing ownership, it is no longer available there. It also aired as part of the Adult Swim lineup for a while, but it is no longer included in that lineup either. It is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Tubi TV and could return with new episodes or a special or two at some point in the future if the cast and creative team can work it into their schedules.
Blood & Treasure (CBS)
(Completed 1st Season, Returning for 2nd Season): This show was originally scheduled to return in Summer 2020, but that was delayed due to the COVID-related production shutdowns. Not all of the filming was completed before the shutdowns which created a problem seeing as this show shoots in international locations. Co-creator and executive producer Matthew Federman indicated on Twitter that the second season would premiere at some point in 2020, but that never happened. At this point, expect it to return in Spring or Summer 2022.
MODOK (Hulu)
(Completed 1st Season, On the Bubble): This show is one of the projects that survived after Marvel Television was shut down and all of the TV projects came under the control of Marvel Studios. There were also plans for more animated entries including Howard the Duck, Tigra and Dazzler, Hit Monkey, and a crossover series to be titled The Offenders. Hit Monkey did go forward, but at this point it is uncertain if it and MODOK may suffer the same fate as fellow orphaned Marvel TV entry Helstrom which was cancelled after one season. Showrunner Jordan Blum has plans for a second season of MODOK and word is that Kevin Fiege is supportive, so perhaps it will have a chance to continue beyond its first year.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness (Netflix)
(Completed 1st Season, Ended): This four-episode animated series set in the Resident Evil universe appears to have just been a one-off. It did not get much promotion from Netflix, nor did it make it into the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 or Netflix’s own Top 10. There has been no word on its fate since it premiered in July 2021, so a second season seems unlikely at this point. A live-action Resident Evil series will be coming to Netflix in 2022, so it is likely that is how the franchise will continue on the streaming service.
Legacies (CW)
(Completed 4th Season, Renewal Likely): The numbers are down for this show in its fourth season, but that is pretty much true of all The CW’s lineup. This one does particularly well in digital viewing, and its network pays close attention to those stats. And The CW does not outright cancel a show without a final season announcement once it has made it past its second season. Expect at least a fifth year from this one if not more.
