Sci Fi/Fantasy TV Shows Premiering This Week
This week will be a busy one for sci fi and fantasy television with six premieres, two on the linear networks and four on the streaming services.
The Wheel of Time (Premieres on Prime Video November 19th): Set in an epic fantasy world, The Wheel of Time follows Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young villagers, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn… the one who will either save or destroy humanity. Based on the books by Robert Jordan. The first three episode will be avaialble to stream on Friday and the show will release one episode per week after that.
The Flash (Season 8 Premieres on The CW November 16th): When a powerful alien threat arrives on Earth under mysterious circumstances, Barry (Grant Gustin), Iris (Candice Patton) and the rest of Team Flash are pushed to their limits in a desperate battle to save the world. But with time running out and the fate of humanity at stake, Flash and his companions will also need to enlist the help of some old friends if the forces of good are to prevail. Part 1 of this five-episode crossover event premieres Tuesday at 8 PM EST.
Cowboy Bebop (Premieres on Netflix November 19th): COWBOY BEBOP is an action-packed space Western about three bounty hunters, aka “cowboys,” all trying to outrun the past. As different as they are deadly, Spike Spiegel (John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) form a scrappy, snarky crew ready to hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals — for the right price. But they can only kick and quip their way out of so many scuffles before their pasts finally catch up with them. Based on the Anime of the same name. All episodes will be available for streaming on Friday.
Star Trek: Discovery (Season 4 Premieres on Paramount+ on November 18th): Season four of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY finds Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery facing a threat unlike any they’ve ever encountered. With Federation and non-Federation worlds alike feeling the impact, they must confront the unknown and work together to ensure a hopeful future for all. The Season 4 premiere will be available on Thursday and the show will release one episode per week.
Schedule Notes:
Also premiering this week is Riverdale which returns for its sixth season and is moving to Tuesdays at 9 PM EST after The Flash. And on Wednesday, the Marvel animated series Hit Monkey has its premiere on Hulu, releasing its first three episodes that day and one per week after that. Doom Patrol wrapped up its third season last week on HBO Max, and that one will be returning next year for its fourth season. “Hit Monkey has its premiere on Hulu, releasing its first three episodes that day and one per week after that. ”
All episodes of season 1 of “Hit Monkey” were already released together on Hulu.
FYI: All episodes of season 1 of “Arcane” on Netflix were available as of Nov 20.
Yeah, Hit Monkey ended up following a different release schedule than originally announced. Arcane was released in three 3-ep “acts” and the full first season is available for streaming. And it just got renewed for a second season: https://www.cancelledscifi.com/2021/11/21/arcane-renewed-for-second-season-by-netflix/
re: “Saturday November 20
Blade Runner: Black Lotus (ADSM) 12:00-12:30 ”
Technically this show is not on Saturday –
it is on Sunday – just as the day starts at
12am in the Morning
That one is a little hard to place on the schedule. It airs at 11 PM in the Central Time Zone, so I am keeping it on Saturday for now.
“Foundation (Apple TV+) Friday New Ep”
This week is the season 1 final episode.
I mistakingly had next week as the season finale, but have corrected that now. Thanks for the heads up.
Forgive me but you have listed a new episode of DOOM patrol for this week. I believe the season finale (episode 10) was last week.
Thanks for the heads up. Thought I had removed that. Corrected now.
