Stargate: SG-1 is one of the longest-running sci fi TV shows of all time, and it also gave us the spin-off shows Stargate: Atlantis and Stargate: Universe. But all three of those shows could be departing from the streaming services by December 2021. Hulu is currently streaming all of the live-action Stargate TV entries, but they are scheduled to depart from the streamer at the end of October. SG-1 joined Netflix’s lineup of acquired shows in December 2020, but it is currently scheduled to leave after November of this year. SG-1 and Atlantis had been airing on the digital broadcast network Comet TV (which also has a website and streaming app), but neither are currently available there either.
It is likely that the change in the franchise’s streaming availability is driven by the pending sale of MGM to Amazon. No long-term licensing deals for the show are being made at this point because they will likely shift to Prime Video if the acquisition of the studio goes through (the shows left that service in February 2021). And the good news is that there are rumblings that another Stargate series could be in the works if the franchise comes under Amazon’s ownership. So while SG-1 and the other live-action Stargate shows may disappear from streaming for a while, they should be available again before too long with a potential new series joining them. Note that the departures of the shows from Hulu and Netflix could potentially be delayed for a month or so. The franchise was already set to leave Hulu last month, but got a short extension to the end of October. It’s not impossible that could happen again with one or both of the streamers, but if you are trying to work your way through any of the shows, you will definitely want to do some binging while they are still available.
