Sci Fi/Fantasy TV Shows Premiering This Week
Next week brings several sci fi/fantasy premieres on the streaming services, including the debut of a show based on an all-time sci fi classic.
Foundation (Premieres on Apple TV+ September 24th): Based on the award-winning novels by Isaac Asimov, Foundation chronicles a band of exiles on their monumental journey to save humanity and rebuild civilization amid the fall of the Galactic Empire. Premieres on Friday and releases one episode per week.
Star Wars: Visions (Premieres on Disney+ September 22nd): Seven Japanese anime studios bring their unique talent and perspective to Star Wars: Visions, a collection of animated Original Short Films. Premieres on Wednesday with all episodes available for viewing.
Doom Patrol (Season 3 Premieres on HBO Max September 23rd): Go through the looking glass with a super-powered gang of outcasts (including Matt Bomer as Negative Man, Joivan Wade as Cyborg, Brendan Fraser as Robotman, and more). Last seen at a decrepit amusement park where Chief (Timothy Dalton) witnessed his metahuman daughter, Dorothy (Abigail Shapiro) engaged in a fiery face-off with “The Candlemaker,” an ancient evil deity who will stop at nothing to fulfill his world-ending destiny. Premieres Thursday with the first three episodes available for viewing and one ep per week released after that.
Creepshow (Season 3 Premieres on Shudder September 23rd): The anthology series based on the 1982 horror comedy classic, is still the most fun you’ll ever have being scared! A comic book comes to life in a series of vignettes, exploring terrors ranging from murder, creatures, monsters, and delusions to the supernatural and unexplainable. You never know what will be on the next page . . . Premieres Thursday and releases one episode per week.
Schedule Notes
FOX’s Fantasy Island apparently only had eight episodes planned for its first season and is wrapping up with its final Sunday, September 19th episode. The network is currently in talks to bring that one back for a second season. Netflix has announced two more Fall premieres: The second season of the space-based sci fi entry Another Life (starring Katee Sackhoff) will premiere on October 14th. And horror entry Locke & Key will have its second season premiere on October 22nd (you can see the trailers at r/SciFiTV).
