Star Trek: The Original Series as well as the sequel shows that followed in the ’80s, ’90s, and ’00s have been widely available on the Big Three streaming services (Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu) for years, but that could be changing soon. Three Trek shows will be leaving Netflix at the end of September, and it is possible that this could be the beginning of the move to make Paramount+ the exclusive streaming home of that franchise. TOS, Voyager, and Enterprise will no longer be available on Netflix after September 30th. That still leaves TNG and DS9, but don’t be surprised if they depart soon.
All of the Trek shows from TOS to Enterprise with the exception of the ’70s animated series are currently available on Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu. But Paramount+ (previously CBS All Access) is trying to stake its claim in the lucrative (and overly crowded) streaming market, and having exlusive streaming rights to all of the Trek shows would definitely be a powerful draw for subscriptions. Paramount owns the rights to the shows and had previously licensed those widely for streaming. But the fact that three shows are leaving Netflix (currently the leading streaming service) could signal an end to those deals and a chance for Paramount to consolidate the franchise on the streaming service it owns.
There has been no word at this point on the Trek shows leaving Amazon or Hulu, nor is there currently any indication that TNG and/or DS9 will be departing from Netflix anytime soon. But keep an eye on this over the next few months to see if more of the Trek shows leave any or all of these services. If the exits continue, then almost certainly Paramount is looking to corner the market on the franchise. And if you had planned on trying to do a rewatch or first-time watch of any or all of these, now is the time. Here is the rundown of which shows are available across the various streaming services.
