Highlights for August
What If . . . ? (Original Animated Series, Premieres August 11th on Disney+): Enter the multiverse of unlimited possibilities. What If… ? explores what would happen if major moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe occurred differently and features fan-favorite characters, including Peggy Carter, T’Challa, Doctor Strange, Killmonger, Thor and more.
Suicide Squad (Original Movie, Premieres August 6th on HBO Max and in Theaters): Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.
See (Original Series, Season 2 premieres August 27th on Apple TV+): SEE is set in a brutal and primitive future, hundreds of years after humankind has lost the ability to see. In season 2, Baba Voss (Jason Momoa) struggles to reunite his family. His estranged brother Edo (Dave Bautista) has captured Baba’s daughter Haniwa, vowing to exact his revenge against his brother. Meanwhile, the threat of war looms between the Kingdom of Paya and the Trivantian Republic, drawing Baba and his family directly into the center of the conflict.
Star Trek: Lower Desck (Original Animated Series, Season 2 premieres August 12th on Paramount+): STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS focuses on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos, in 2380. Ensigns Mariner, Boimler, Rutherford and Tendi have to keep up with their duties and their social lives, often while the ship is being rocked by a multitude of sci-fi anomalies.
